Everyday Influence

Professional excellence through intentional self-leadership:

How to lead yourself, strengthen relationships, and elevate every workplace

After nearly 30 years in corporate leadership, I've learned that oftentimes the most expensive line item never shows up on your balance sheet. This is because, where do you allocate mistrust? Which line-item documents miscommunication and misunderstanding? Where do you record losing great employees?

This happens because difficult conversations are being avoided. When communication does happen, it is emotional and then misunderstood. Managers are so focused on meeting deadlines that they no longer see the confused employee in front of their eyes. Now rather than getting the work done, there is discord among employees. There may be infighting. Time is spent with employees talking about what is wrong and that is creating mistrust.

The organization is concerned because deadlines are being missed, projects are going over budget, and employee turnover is high, all of that costing significant money. The employees are frustrated and discouraged because they are not fully focused on the work they were hired to do because there is so much "noise" occurring all around them. And here's the frustrating part: many of these problems aren't caused by people who don't care or aren't capable. They're caused by capable people who haven't learned how to navigate differences, communicate through difficult moments, or recognize the impact their own behavior has on the people around them.

This is when the Clean Up in Aisle 7 begins! If effective communication led with emotional intelligence by all leaders at any level occurred at the beginning, the work would have gotten done. Now, the work isn't done and there is a Clean Up in Aisle 7 to tend to.

As an employer, leader, or department lead, would you like to stop Cleaning Up in Aisle 7 and help your team learn how to have difficult conversations, lead with emotional intelligence, and recognize and resolve conflict before a spill becomes an entire mess?

That's where I come in.

Through keynotes, workshops, and leadership development programs, I help organizations recognize and resolve communication breakdowns and workplace conflict that quietly drain time, productivity, trust, and talent.
